| MET & MAA FITA | |||
The MET & MAA Outdoor FITA tournaments are being held for the first time beginning in 2004. The shoots this year are trial shoots to see if there will be enough interest to make them regular parts of the schedule. Based on the feedback we have received so far there is good reason to believe we can count on these shoots again in 2005. The format for the shoots is the same except there are less arrows shot at a half FITA - oddly enough, half the arrows!! The shoots will be held at the of the summer each year. If you are new to this style of shooting the short Q&A below might help give you some idea about these events. |

Q |
What distances are shot? |
A |
Adult men shoot from 90, 70, 50 & 30 meters and women (and Master Seniors) shoot from 70, 60, 50 & 30 meters.
Q |
How are the target setup? |
A |
The targets are setup in one line the longest distance being shot first. Target butts are arranged in one line 10 feet apart. Archer shoot in groups of 4 with each archer having a 2-1/2 foot shooting box. After a distance is completed the targets are moved up to the next distance. |
Q |
What targets are used ? |
A |
The 122 cm FITA target is used at each of the longer distances (90/ 70/ 60) and the 80 cm target is used at the shorter distances (50/30). All archers on a target butt share the target at the longer distances. At the shorter distances two archers share a target. At some venues the 3 spot 80cm target is used at the 30 meter distance in which case the archers have their own individual target face. |
Q |
What is the format for the tournaments? |
A |
The basic difference between the MET 1/2 FITA and the MAA FITA is the number of arrows shot. The MAA is a "FULL" FITA which is 144 arrows. Archers shoot 36 arrows at each distance. Depending on the venue archers usually shoot 6 ends of 6 arrows each at the longer distances (90/70/60) and 12 ends of 3 arrows each at the shorter distances. The 12/ 3 ends are shot to reduce the number of arrows impacting other arrows at the shorter distances. Due to the number of arrows being shot the shoot is usually a two day event with the two longer distances being shot the first day and the shorter distances being shot the second day. This is the format being used at the MAA FITA. The format for the MET FITA, which is a one day event, is a 72 arrow or "1/2 FITA". The same distances are shot but in a different format. Archers will shoot 3 ends of shoot 6 arrows each at the longer distances (90/70/60) and 6 ends of 3 arrows each at the shorter distances. Again the 6/3 ends are shot to reduce the number of arrows impacting other arrows at the shorter distances. |
Q |
What distances will my son or daughter shoot? |
A |
Young adults shoot the same distances as the adults. I am not sure, at the time of this writing, what distances are shot for Youth and Cubs. I am checking in to this and will update this information as soon as I know more. Check back later. |
Q |
Do I have to shoot both days? |
A |
The MET 1/2 FITA is a one day event - all arrows are shot in one day. The MAA FITA is a two day event and you must compete both days to shoot the required number of arrows. Half the arrows being shot the first day and the other half are shot the second day. If you do not participate both days you will not shoot the required number of arrows. |
