MAA State Outdoor Shoot

The MAA State Outdoor shoot is held each spring. The hosting club is chosen by the MAA at the end of the previous year and announced by the MAA as early as possible - usually in December or January. Below you can find out more information about the shoot. You can also visit the MAA web site for more information.

What time does the shoot start?
A

Shooting starts at 8:00 Am on Saturday. You can pre-register and get a desired start time or register the day of the shoot - in which case you will be assigned to a group of no less than three archers. Groups of 3-4 archers go off in 6 minute intervals.

On Sunday starting times are assigned and are posted at the hosting facility approximately 3 hours after the final group finishes on Saturday.

How much does it cost ?
A
Pre-Registration fees are $15 Adult/Senior, $ 7.50 Youth, $35 Family. Pro fee is normal fee plus an additional $25.

Can I shoot in my division?
A
Yes. You can shoot as a Pro, Master Senior (65+), Senior (55+), Adult (18+), Young Adult (15-17), Youth (12-14) Cub (11 and under)

What styles can I shoot ?
A
You can shoot; Free Style (FS), Free Style Limited (FSL), Bowhunter Free Style (BHFS), Bowhunter Free Style Limited (BHFSL), Bare Bow (BB), Bowhunter Bare Bow (BHBB), Traditional (TRAD) or Free Style Limited Recurve (FSLR)

How many targets are shot and at what distances?
A
20 targets butts are arranged in a V formation. Each leg of the V has 10 butts setup at distances from 20 to 65 yards placed at 5 yard intervals.

How are the target faces setup?
A
From 20-30 yards each target butt will have four targets and each archer has his own single spot target to shoot. From 35-50 yards each target butt will have two targets and two archers share the same target. From from 55-65 each target but will have a single target and each group of archers will share the one target.

What targets are used ?
A

The blue faced single spot MAA targets are used. From smallest to largest - 15 inch, 22-1/2 inch and 30 inch.

What is the format for the tournament?
A
A round consist of 20 ends of 3 arrows each for a total of 60 arrows. Each arrow hitting the target within the inner white ring (including the center white spot) counts as 5 points. The center white spot is called a "spot" or "X". Spots are counted separately and used as a tie breaker. A perfect score results in a daily total of 300 points. Arrows hitting outside the center ring are counted 4, 3 or miss ("M" on the score card).

What distances will my son or daughter shot?
A

CUBS (11 and under) shoot 20-30 yards and repeat the 20 yard distances to make up for those beyond 20 yds, for a total of 20 targets.
YOUTHS (12-14) shoot 20-50 yards and repeat the 20 yard distances to make up for those beyond 50 yds, for a total of 20 targets.
YOUNG ADULTS shoot 20-65 yds.

Do I have to shoot both days?
A
Yes. The tournament consist of two 300 point rounds. The first day ranks the shooters who are then paired together for the second day to determine the winner of each division.
