| MAA Divisions and Shooting Styles | ||
The information below was taken from the Michigan Archers Association 2005 calendar. There is often confusion regarding the various Divisions, Shooting Styles and Classes, so hopefully this will help answer some questions and archers can be more prepared and know what to expect when they attend a MAA shoot. |
DIVISION - has to do with the archer himself, the person. Presently the MAA has six (6) divisions. |
Pro Division: for those who are members of the NFAA Pro Division. These archers compete nationally or at the state level for monetary prizes under rules set forth by the NFAA Pro division. No contribution is made by the MAA to their prize money. |
Adult Division: ages 18 and older. Formerly, this was called the "Open" division. |
Young Adult Division: ages 15-17 |
Youth Division: ages 12-14 |
Cub Division: ages 11 and under |
Senior Division: ages 55 an older |
Master Senior Division: ages 65 and older |
STYLE - depends on the type of equipment and how the archers use it. The MAA recognizes eight (8) different styles of shooting. |
Freestyle (FS): Any type of bow can be used and anything on the bow may be used, such as sight, string peep, stabilizers and release aids. |
Freestyle Limited (FSL): Same as Freestyle except that no release aids can be used. |
Bowhunter Freestyle (BHFS) and Bowhunter Freestyle Limited (BHFSL): These styles have many rules. For a complete list consult the NFAA Constitution and Bylaws. |
Bare Bow (BB): No sights. However, a clicker, drawcheck or level may be used as long as they are not in the sight picture. Stabilizers and string walking are allowed. |
Bowhunter Bare Bow (BHBB): Same as bare bow except that your finger must touch the arrow when drawing the bow back. String walking is NOT allowed. |
Traditional (TRAD): Same as bare bow except a longbow or stick bow is used and no stabilizers are allowed. |
Freestyle Limited Recurve (FSLR): Same as Freestyle Limited except you must use a recurve bow. |
The MAA does not recognize any Bowhunter styles of shooting in any of the youth divisions. |
Consult the NFAA Bylaws for Rules on each style. |
| CLASSES | ||
This is on the scorecard but you will not find it on the registration form. The reason for this is that each tournament is different, so you may shoot in a different class for each. Currently, in the adult division, all archers except those shooting traditional shooting style shall be placed in Classes AA, A or B. Mens Free Style has only one additional class, that of Class C according to scores shoot in each individual round. There are no classes for any of the youth divisions, Recurve Freestyle Limited and Pro division. For a complete breakdown you should consult the MAA Bylaws. There are individual competitions and also team competitions at the MAA Championship tournaments in Adult divisions, Either Club or Association teams, consisting of a maximum of four members, may enter in all shooting styles. |
SHOOTING TIMES - varies for each tournament. |
Indoor Tournaments: Sunday:9:00 AM 1:00 PM
