MAA Marked Yardage 3D

The MAA Marked 3D tournament is held each summer , usually in late August. The hosting club is chosen by the MAA at the end of the previous year and announced by the MAA as early as possible - usually in December or January. Below you can find out more information about the shoot. You can also visit the MAA web site for more information.

How many days is the shoot?
A

Depending on the overall tournament schedule and schedule of the hosting club the shoot can be one or two days. It is best to check the MAA web site or contact the tournament chair person for the hosting club to verify the exact dates.

What time does the shoot start?
A

You can shoot anytime between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

How much does it cost ?
A
Pre-Registration fees are $15 Adult/Senior, $ 7.50 Youth, $35 Family. Pro fee is normal fee plus an additional $25.

Can I shoot in my division?
A
Yes. You can shoot as a Pro, Adult, Senior (55+), Young Adult (15-17), Youth (12-14) Cub (11-)

What styles can I shoot ?
A

You can shoot; Free Style (FS), FreeStyleLimited (FSL), BowHunterFreeStyle (BHFS), BowHunterFreeStyleLimited (BHFSL), BareBow (BB), , Traditional (TRAD) or FreeStyleLimitedRecurve (FSLR).

Note: The MAA does not recognize and bow hunter styles of shooting in any of the youth divisions.

What sort of target are used?
A
3D animal targets are used. Targets range from small animals like turkeys and bobcats to larger animals like elk and a grizzly bear.

How are the targets setup?
A
The targets are setup to simulate real hunting situations. Many of the targets have a limited view making the shot more difficult.

Are there tree stands?
A

Yes there are a few tree stand shots as well as some from raised platforms and shooting positions as well.

What distances are shot?
A
Distances range from 10 yds to 50 yds for adults and everything in between. All distances are clearly marked on stakes. Orange stakes for adults and green stakes for youths. One of your feet must be touching the stake during the shot.

Can I use binoculars to view the animals?
A
Yes you can use binoculars during this shoot.

What is the format for the tournament?
A

There are a total of 30 targets with the first two being practice. One single arrow is shot at each of the remaining targets. Scoring is 10-8-5-M. There are scoring rings on the target. The small inner ring is counted as an "X" and scored as a ten. Any shot that hits the body outside the scoring rings is counted as a 5. A perfect score of 280 points is possible.

What distances will my son or daughter shot?
A

CUBS (11 and under) will shoot from 10 to 30 yards. .

YOUTHS (12-14) will shoot the same as the adults.

Do I have to shoot both days?
A
No. If the shoot is held over two days you only need to shoot one time.

What accommodations are available?
A
This depends on the hosting facility. Some clubs have enough room for camping. Some clubs host the shoot at a local campground or park. So it is best to contact the host club to find out more details about the local accomodatio0ns.
